Canoe Paddle with Image of Identified State of Maine Rustic Lodge
Carved pine canoe paddle with exceptional folk scene of the "Norway Pines at Dobsis Lake". The pyrography image depicts the main lodge which was built in 1884 on lake Syladobsis in Orrington Maine. Notable visitors to the lodge included Andrew Carnegie and President Calvin Coolidge. The folky image includes the architecture with towering pines and two small campfires. On the verso is a wonderful calligraphic script name "Stone". A rare folk art find of graphic appeal depicting a historic rustic lodge. Wonderful untouched varnished surface with copper edging. Exceptional large and early rustic frame, burl cut and fitted to face of the frame. Deep, dark original varnished surface. Great scale and totally untouched. Found in New York State. Interior dimension 23.25" x 16.75".
Folky Skyscraper Form Hardware Store Cupboard
Quirky 1930s hardware store sorter of towering Art Deco "skyscraper" form. Wide base holds second level and then thin towering top section. Bins have remains of paper labels showing contents of farm parts and also pencil calculations in grey painted surface. A nice sturdy useful piece of delightful vernacular form.
Carved American Folk Art Frame
Carved oak Folk Art frame recently found in Pennsylvania. Deep carved motifs include the sun, winged men, a church, potted tulips and a horseshoe surrounding the frame opening. Original varnished surface with a bit of gold and silver paint highlighting some details. Wonderful motifs are skillfully executed and laid out in this masterful Folk Art carving.
